So I’m the right gal for your FAMILY PHOTO SHOOT? Great! Whether we’ve clicked together 100 times, or this will be our first project together, there are several options when you chose me to help show them what your family tree looks like.
First and foremost, I recently made a shift in how I run my studio, and am now FULL SERVICE. This means no more leaving you to finish the session and print on your own. I WILL HELP! Shortly after our session is done, you’ll stop by my hive in Excelsior, MN and we’ll watch a cute slideshow and view your gallery, and I’ll help you order whatever you want for your tables, walls and more! So easy, lots of fun, and no more struggling for the time to DIY. You’ll love it!
With that in mind, here are some options for our session. Let me throw a bunch of links and information at you.
Not to overwhelm, but to inform.
Let’s start with a Location:
- Studio. I have an adorable studio right in the heart of downtown Excelsior, MN just steps from Lake Minnetonka. The studio is best for 1-2 kids, or a special themed occasion like Valentine’s Day, 1st Birthday Cake Smashes, and more. Can I put a whole family on a white background and have it look good? Absolutely. But let’s keep personalities in mind… Are you and the kids the types that can hop into a room and immediately “give good face” or is something more casual and relaxed your style?
- Outdoors. The vast majority of my sessions are outside, and our beautiful fall season is certainly popular here in Minnesota. Do you have a favorite park or location that you think is great? Let’s talk! I’m always open to your ideas and suggestions. However, that being said, I have my favorites. (example photos below) They’re places that I’ve clicked at dozens and dozens of times. I know how the different posing stops look in certain light, I know what families have ordered loud & proud for their living rooms. Some may be great for bigger families, some only work with small ones. Most are in the west metro, just because that’s where I lived for years, and I know the area. How about the famous blue tin barndoor in Excelsior? I rescued it from demo this summer, it’s all mine! Let’s narrow it down to something more NATURE, URBAN or GRASSY FIELD, and divide this category up a bit:
A. Traditional portrait session – casual, fun, a bit more posed, a bit less lifestyle. It’s what most people think of when they imagine getting their photos done. Eyes and smiles tend to be towards the camera, laughing and having fun.
B. Lifestyle session – Let’s grab a favorite quilt, maybe a book you all love, kids and their teddy bears, and sit in a blooming grassy field and frolic. This session focuses more on your connection and family unit, and is less “camera aware.” Think more eyes at each other, than eyes at me. (Hint: This is a great way to embrace little kids who never hold still. Or your husband, if he relates to Chandler Bing and Monica’s engagement shoot.)
- A Day in your Life. I am obsessed with doing these sessions, and prance around giddy all day each time I book one. Why are they not more popular? I think moms worry too much about how messy their house is. Yet your family lives in that delightfully-messy house 364 days a year. Why are we not capturing you & YOUR FAMILY the way you are? My house is messy. I have 3 little kids. My house is also filled with laughter and fun and chocolate fingerprints on walls and laundry that never gets put away. Embrace that. It’s your life. There is such charm in these sessions, I’d love for you to consider doing one. More details HERE.
- Themed. Those that know me likely list “creative” as one of my main attributes. I love doing something different and fun. Jumping off a dock, evening silhouettes, stacked up 4-5 people high (I have my tricks), a beach picnic, snowball fights & sledding… if you’re the type to buck traditional family portraits and do something more “you” –
I AM YOUR GAL !
When should we click this? Now. Really, right now. You don’t need a month to obsess on what to wear, and the right time is right where you’re at in life. Not in 10 pounds, not in one less chin or longer hair or after you get that one thing done you wanted to get done last spring… now. (plus I book up every fall and make a mad scramble end of the year… let’s avoid that, shall we?) Or plan on going big next year and just join me for my Holiday Christmas Tree Farm mini sessions early December. Up to you!
So let’s talk. Call me, email me, whatever you prefer. We can come up with a game plan for our session as well as what we’re going to DO with these photos afterwards. Try to think beyond that 8×10 frame. We can go simple with my “Buzz By” mini sessions or we can go big. It’s just what you’re looking for at this time, and what fits you as a family. Take the budget part out for a moment, and really think about what you would love if money wasn’t an issue. (Then we can talk about how to make that happen with a payment plan or whatever.) I can give you the speech about how they grow up so fast, but we all know that. But what we’re doing here is REALLY REALLY important. Years down the road, when the snapshots on your phone are lost and the house is quiet…. what will you want to see again? When you look at your walls and your tables, who’s faces do you want to see there?
Capturing these family memories is important.
Show them what your family tree looks like !
