Hello friends and families!
While my studio in Excelsior off Water Street was wonderful, our family moved our own hive a wee bit west this winter, and this Lucky Bea got a new studio as part of the whole deal. Our adorable hobby farm in Minnetrista has wonderful nooks and crannies to click on for family shoots, beautiful grassy knolls, wildflowers and sunnies right across the road, and that little farmhouse all prettied’up giving me a place to click year round. It also gives me a space to offer my families and clients a more “full service” experience, regardless if you order in person with my help, or a DIY online gallery.
Think of me like Lunds & Byerly’s. Not Aldi & Cub.
Can you find someone “cheaper”? Yes. At times I feel like a whale in a sea of fish.
Can you get a 4 hour session with unlimited locations and outfits and every single photo on a CD? Nope. Not with me. I don’t see the point in that. Do you?
Gone are the days where I dump a disk in the mailbox and we talk again next year.
Because TOO MANY TIMES, that next year? You admitted you either just got some photos printed from last time, or confessed you never even got around to it. But geeeeeee, it sure was cute showing them a bit on Facebook. ARE YOU KIDDING? Your kids and family don’t benefit long term from a Facebook post. It’s an instant fix and never permanent. And it sure as heck won’t be around in a few years to serve as family archives.
SHOW THEM! PRINT OUR WORK! LET ME HELP YOU DO IT!
OK, whew. I’m getting a little riled up here. Sorry, I’m Irish. With change comes questions, and I’d love to explain my thinking here. And it’s a bit around THIS statement: “I love your style, Tracie Bea. But I can get my cousin’s brother’s neighbor to give me a disk for a lot less money and I can print myself at Walgreens.”
Yes, you can. So WHY stick with me?
Well, I have a LOT of experience and I am a professional. Your husband and kids are not likely to do this twice.
Say your appendix bursts. You want a 1st year resident or an experienced surgeon who’s been doing appendectomies for years?
Ironically, I’m a licensed nurse. But that’s another blog post….
Either you love getting photos done and we’re likely already best friends, or capturing these memories is a bit of hassle, and stresses you and/or your family out a bit. I can help. This won’t cost extra and it makes for a much better experience for everyone.
I think that makes me a great photographer and small business owner.
Here’s more of my list:
1. I’ve been doing this a LONG time. I got past the growing pains of a new small business, I specialize in kids & families and not a dozen other types of photography. (which means I really know how to run that type of session)
and I’m really good with 99.9% of the kids (and husbands) out there. And that remaining .1%? They’re having a bad day no one can get near. C’est la vie.
2. I will help you plan your session, as simple or fancy as you want to get, I will shoot it with professional ease and efficiency, and you will have plenty of beautiful images to chose from. I make this all E-A-S-Y. Time is often as valuable as money. Do it right and be done with it. (you really think you’re going to get him to dress up again for a re-shoot because your newbie photographer goofed the shoot?)
3. I will help you print. “But but but what about that disk??!!”
Let’s stop the bus for a moment. WHY? WHY do you want those? I get it, even the out-takes can be funny and if you go back to #1 again you should believe that I show you just about anything I think you might like. We all have mobile phones that take decent photos. You have gigabytes of pictures that you can scroll through anytime you want. How many of those do you print?
SERIOUSLY! HOW MANY OF THOSE DO YOU PRINT?
We are doing a special session to capture you as a family, a milestone, an event, whatever…
and we’re going to show them what your family tree looks like.
It’s really simple: You print what you want to preserve.
That file I give you might not even open in a hundred years. (floppy disk anyone?)
Facebook might be gone. (MySpace?)
If an image means something to you, you print it.
4. “But Tracie Bea, I can get a 5×7 print at Walgreens for 72 cents. Why is yours more?”
I could talk about this for hours, but the short answer is this:
You are not paying me for paper. You are investing in the image that’s on it. Besides, photos printed at big box stores look like junk and will not stand the test of time. Period.
I’m a huge fan of staying affordable, because I’m a frugal little lass. But I have a family to support and raise,
and what I am providing is VALUABLE & IMPORTANT.
It’s also my profession, I’m also priced at market value, and I book up every. single. year.
I hope we can agree I’m doing somethings right.
What we are doing is important. There are 100 photographers that cost more than me, and five times that who are cheaper. But I’m great at my job and you can trust that I’ll be worth your investment. You can schedule a full session, or join me for a little mini session if that’s all you need at the moment. I get that. Grab some new paper prints and freshen up those frames, or stop by my hive and peek at one of the many options you have for albums. These aren’t your
simple big box store books, they’re so pretty. You’ll be blown away at the options we have to create a one-of-a kind heirloom, that will be SEEN far past an Instagram update. Pssssttt…. albums have lots of photos in them. Kinda’ like a disk. BUT YOU CAN SEE THE IMAGES ALL THE TIME ! Free tip, from the Queen Bea herself.
In closing… Print stuff. Let me help.
One more food for thought….
I did some research, conversions and crunched some numbers, and have determined that Leonardo da Vinci, spent about 58 cents on the canvas and paint for the Mona Lisa in the year 1503.
It’s worth $1.2 Billion dollars now.
It’s not a billion dollar canvas.
It’s a billion dollar image.
Go ahead and think of your family photos as something that priceless.
